As we near the end of arguably the worst year in recent history, many people are wondering when they can safely travel again. The answer to that is...it depends. Mostly, it depends on your comfort level with the safety measures taken at your chosen destination. I recently travelled to Orlando, FL and visited Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Discovery Cove. All three parks were awesome at keeping guests safe by promoting social distancing and enhanced cleaning procedures. I honestly felt safer at these parks than at my regular grocery store. Each park has strict mask-wearing rules and they actually enforce those rules. If a guest is not properly wearing a mask, they will be asked to leave the park. Universal Studios and Disney greatly reduced capacity at the parks during the pandemic to allow for better social distancing. All rides are deep-cleaned regularly and guests are either spaced out in the ride vehicles or there is some kind of barrier (like plexiglass) between seats to separate parties. Guests of the parks may only eat or drink while stationery and socially distanced and may not eat or drink while in line for rides. Now, I know the idea of wearing a mask all day long while walking a ton around the parks does not sound like an ideal situation; however, with the right mask, it's really not that bad. Especially in the "winter" months. I was actually a bit thankful for my mask in the early mornings and late nights because my face stayed warm in the cold air (I went at the beginning of December). Plus, Disney and Universal both have areas for guests to sit and relax with their masks off (socially distanced, of course).
So, while no one can make the decision to travel for you, it is definitely doable right now and you should think about it. It may even be a great time to go to the Orlando theme parks due to the travel restrictions in some states and in other countries. While the parks were still very busy during the holidays, the crowds were much smaller than in prior years due to reduced park capacity and less people travelling in general. Who knows what the future will hold but hopefully travel will return to normal soon.
Live your travel life to its fullest!
